Accelerated Reader

Last year, fourth grade had a very successful AR year, leading all others in points and # of books read.  I hope to keep up that record this year! Students may take tests on any book they complete from home or in school.  If a book is not in the AR system I still encourage them to read, and I will manually give them a quiz and enter the correct number of points.  Please encourage your child to read during his/her free time at home or as a way of winding down before bed by sharing a book together, even big kids like to be read to!

In about 2-3 weeks I will begin inputting goals into the Accelerated Reader system for each child. Each student will take the "STAR" test, which is a comprehension/vocab test on the computer to determine his/her independent reading level. The goals will be individualized so that a student reading on a third grade level will not require as many points as a child reading on a sixth grade level.  Each goal will be set with the input of the student with a little push from me to make them challenge themselves.  These goals will be only between me, that child, and his/her parents.

Also, as a small "incentive" toward reading as the class reaches its class goal (right now it's 100 points) we will have a mini-party of the class' choosing (popcorn, short movie, ice cream, etc.).

Happy Reading!
